Captain Smit Machchhar was on a Flydubai plane from Dubai to Tel Aviv. The plane's other pilot hurt him with a knife. People from Israel said the other pilot looked like he wanted to make the plane hit the ground. There were 174 people on the plane, and it fell almost 14,000 feet in less than 30 seconds.
Even after he was hurt, Smit Machchhar opened the door to the room where pilots fly the plane. People on the plane and people who worked on it went in and stopped the other pilot. Two more Flydubai pilots were on the plane for a flight after this one. They took over flying and landed the plane at Tabuk, in Saudi Arabia. Both pilots went to a hospital.
More than 10 hours later, the people on the plane got to Tel Aviv on another Flydubai plane. “It was amazing,” said Lital Shachaf, one of the people on the plane.
People from Saudi Arabia will ask the other pilot questions. The United Arab Emirates has asked people to find out what happened. Israel will check pilots more carefully before they fly to the country. Flydubai flies from Dubai to Tel Aviv every day. This is important because no one knows why the other pilot did this, and Israel is changing how it checks pilots.
